What is this game?
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is an action role-playing game. It features characters from the Marvel Comics universe and follows elements of the Secret War and Civil War story arcs. The game is played from an isometric dungeon crawl perspective and supports up to four players simultaneously.
What did I contribute?
For this game I was responsible for designing various missions from start to finish, including building and playtesting the initial level layouts. We would do weekly playtesting and feedback sessions between the level designers on the project. This role encompassed not only the layouts, but populating and scripting anything that was needed for the levels (including cutscenes and conversation dialogue).
Each of the missions that I was responsible for doing level design for I was also responsible for handling any mini-boss fights that took place in those missions. Some of the fights I designed and scripted were the Cloak and Dagger fight, the Multiple Man fight, and the Venom and Goblin fight.
As the project was closing in on Alpha it became clear that we needed a small group of high performers to go through each level in the game and polish things to reach our target quality bar as the current state of levels was all over the place. I was a key part of this small strike team that went through and made sure everything was in a shippable state. This included everything from creating particle effects to adjusting animations on objects and anything else that was necessary to get the end result we wanted.
